Cash on delivery

The cash on delivery service guarantees secure payment for your goods upon delivery. Parcels labelled "cash on delivery" are only handed over to the recipient against payment for the goods. The maximum amount for cash on delivery shipments is EUR 3,500. Once collected, the cash is transferred to your nominated account.

Delivery to addressee only

With the delivery to addressee only service, your parcel is only handed over to the recipient in person or to a person that the recipient has authorised to receive the parcel on their behalf. The delivery to addressee only service is marked separately on your shipment.

Sender's instructions

With sender's instructions, you can specify before you ship what is to happen with the delivery in certain cases - for instance if the recipient cannot be contacted.

With DHL Paket, choose from the following forms of sender’s instructions

Delivery on specified date – you define the day on which your customer receives the parcel.
In-person delivery – only your customer, and not their neighbour, receives the parcel.
Customer moved information – you are notified if your customer has moved.
Undeliverable notification – you are notified if one of your parcels cannot be delivered, for example if the address was wrong.

You then determine what happens with the parcel:

Forward to another address
Second attempt to deliver to the same address
Return to you
Return immediately – the parcel is not stored at a branch or Packstation for collection if we have not been able to reach the recipient.

Transport insurance

With transport insurance, you can insure your parcel beyond the usual liability limits. The shipment is not marked out as containing valuables. It is processed anonymously in the normal system.

The benefits for you

Insure your shipment up to a maximum of Euro 25,000
If your shipment is lost or damaged, payment is effected quickly and without red tape
It is not possible to tell what the contents of the parcel are or whether transport insurance has been taken out

With the advice of delivery, you can be sure of who has received your shipment when. The delivery confirmation signed by the recipient is sent to you promptly after your shipment is delivered.

The advice of delivery slip gives you definite proof to show your customer should the need arise.

Exchange process

If you want to securely exchange your goods locally with your customers or business partners, use the DHL Paket exchange process and benefit from professional handling procedures.

The DHL delivery agent will transport your shipment to the recipient, take the mail order item away and exchange it locally for the item you define. The exchange is secure and takes place in a single transaction, so that you can be very safe in the knowledge that the item being exchanged will be with you as quickly as possible.

With an exchange box, you can also arrange a pick-up in which the recipient doesn’t even have to worry about the packaging. As an additional service, DHL Paket also offers the verification of checking control reference numbers in accordance with your specifications during the exchange process.

Bulky goods are shipments that

if cuboid, exceed the maximum dimensions of a Weltpaket (120 x 60 x 60 cm),
if roll-shaped, weigh more than 5 kg or exceed a length of 120 cm or a diameter of 15 cm or
have special packaging features (e.g. no cardboard packaging, wrapped in film or plastic, with protruding parts or uneven surfaces).

Sender's instructions

Before sending your parcel, specify what should happen if your shipment cannot be delivered in the destination country. To do this, please tick the sender's instructions directly on the shipping form for your WELTPAKET shipment:

a) Return to sender (Renvoyer à l'expéditeur)

If your parcel item cannot be delivered to the recipient in the destination country, it is returned. The type of return transport will be determined by the postal company in the recipient country:

Return via road transport: EUR 10 (generally used for return deliveries from European countries)
Return via air transport: EUR 20 (generally used for return deliveries from non-European countries)

The charge is only levied if your parcel shipment is actually returned.

b) Abandon (Traiter comme abandonné)

If your parcel shipment cannot be delivered, it will not be returned to you, but rather auctioned off or sold by the recipient country's postal company. You will not be charged anything for this.

Third attempt to deliver

Upon delivery, the recipient acknowledges receipt of your shipment. The signature or company stamp counts as confirmation of receipt.

Would you like written confirmation of the time your shipment was delivered?
Then use our proof of delivery service.This DHL service offers you the security of knowing when your shipment was delivered in Germany and many countries across Europe.

Upon delivery, the recipient acknowledges receipt of your shipment. The recipient's signature counts as confirmation of receipt. The proof of delivery slip provides information about the time of delivery, the shipment number, the recipient's name and the recipient's signature.The delivery information with the original signature is microfiched and archived. The details can be faxed to you upon request.
