DHL PÄCKCHEN International items with the Proof of delivery service will only be handed over to the recipient or someone authorised to receive the shipment anywhere in the world upon provision of a signature. If your parcel is lost or damaged, DHL offers liability of up to EUR 35.00 on presentation of the acknowledged or stamped deposit receipt.

Please note that acknowledgement is only provided for a DHL PÄCKCHEN International item with Proof of delivery service if you drop it off at a Deutsche Post outlet or if you request for it to be picked up.

This service can only be requested if the parcel was franked using DHL Online Franking.

If you wish to send your parcel in roll format, you will require a roll stamp. Roll stamps are available from your nearest outlet and in the DHL Shop.

Before shipping, tell us whether your shipment is to be returned if undeliverable. To do this, note the sender's instructions on the address side of the shipment in a language readily understood in the destination country, for example:

German: Bei Unzustellbarkeit zurück an den Absender
French: En cas de non-remise renvoyer à l'expéditeur
English: If undeliverable return to sender

Simply check the desired sender's instructions on the new WELT shipping form for Paket and Päckchen items sent outside the EU.

Undeliverable parcels with no indication will not be returned, but will be abandoned (i.e. the parcel will be auctioned or destroyed in the destination country). The sender's instructions service is free for DHL Päckchen International items.

If shipping to countries outside the European Union, please carefully complete customs declaration CN 22 to allow your parcel to be processed as quickly as possible by the customs authorities. Customs declaration CN 22 is a part of the WELT shipping form for Paket and Päckchen items sent outside the EU, which can be obtained at your branch. You can also download the CN 22 form as a PDF file (see below).

If the value of the content exceeds 300 Special Drawing Rights (EUR 339.41 on 01.01.2012), do not use customs declaration CN 22 but customs declaration CN 23. In addition to the CN 22 form, the WELT shipping form for Paket and Päckchen items sent outside the EU also contains the CN 23 customs declaration form. The shipping form can be obtained from your branch. You can also download the CN 23 form as a PDF file (see below).

The completed form must be placed in an adhesive pouch, available from your outlet, and attached to the address side of the parcel. If the form cannot be attached to the address side, it should be affixed to a different side. In this case, the top section of the customs declaration CN 22 must also be affixed to the address side of the parcel.

With DHL Paket International to EU countries, transport insurance up to EUR 500 against loss and damage** is included.

With DHL Paket International to countries outside the EU, DHL is liable for the value of the contents** as defined by the legal liability regulations set down by the Universal Postal Union:

• 40 SDR (Special Drawing Rights) per parcel plus 4.5 SDR per kilo
• 1 SDR = EUR 1.13138***

With DHL Paket Premium Service products (only for countries outside the EU), transport insurance up to EUR 500 is included.

With the Premium service, your DHL PAKETE International items take priority and are always transported to the destination country by the fastest means possible. The Premium service also includes a transport insurance up to EUR 500. (This can only be added in outlets or with Online franking).

DHL PAKET products in zone 1 / EU include transport insurance up to EUR 500 as standard. 

If you wish to send a shipment in roll format, you will require a roll stamp.

Bulky goods are items that, if cuboid in shape, exceed the maximum dimensions of a DHL PAKET (120 x 60 x 60 cm), or, if roll-shaped, weigh more than 5 kg or are longer than 120 cm or more than 15 cm in diameter or have special packaging characteristics (e.g. no cardboard packaging, wrapped in film or plastic, with protruding parts or uneven surfaces).

Please note that this service is not available in all countries. For more information on each individual country, please visit our country pages (unfortunately only available in German).

* For parcels exceeding 10 kg or a combined length and girth of 300 cm, the bulky goods service is subject to VAT: EUR 23.80 (including VAT)
** Combined length = Length + 2x width + 2x heigth

Before sending your parcel, specify what should happen if your shipment cannot be delivered in the destination country. To do this, please tick the sender's instructions directly on the shipping form for your DHL PAKET International shipment:

a) Return to sender (Renvoyer à l'expéditeur

If your DHL PAKET International item cannot be delivered to the recipient in the destination country, it is returned. The type of return transport will be determined by the postal company in the recipient country:

• Return via road transport: EUR 10 (generally used for return deliveries from European countries)
• Return via air transport: EUR 20 (generally used for return deliveries from non-European countries)

The charge is only levied if your DHL PAKET International shipment is actually returned.

b) Abandon (Traiter comme abandonné)

If your DHL PAKET International shipment cannot be delivered, it will not be returned to you, but rather auctioned off or sold by the recipient country's postal company. You will not be charged anything for this.
